Guard Kills Girlfriend Over Abortion Money

Jim Zaccheus, the 27-year old security guard who allegedly killed his girlfriend, Miss Peace Mathias and buried her corpse in shallow grave in his room at Elechi Beach Waterfront, Mile One, Diobu in Port Harcourt, southsouth Nigeria, said he killed her over abortion money and blamed the devil for his action.

Zaccheus was arraigned before Mrs. D.N. Wanjoku, who ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody for lack of jurisdiction of the Magistrate's Court to adjudicate on matter.

The magistrate said since the court lacked the legal powers to hear the case, the suspect could approach the High Court for bail.

She subsequently adjourned the case till 30 May for the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP's advice on the case.

Sources said the suspect had told his interrogators that trouble started when he could not provide an undisclosed amount of money to procure an abortion of her deceased girlfriend's three-month old pregnancy.

According to police sources, Zaccheus allegedly confessed that when he court provide the needed funds for the abortion, his deceased lover decided to procure a loan which he would pay later.

However, the suspect reneged on his promise after the abortion was procured successfully by the late girlfriend. But the late lover visited his house at Elechi Beach demand the refund of at least a part of the total money spent on abortion.

He allegedly said in his statement to the police that all attempts to persuade his deceased girlfriend to see reason that he was yet to receive his first salary from the security company where he worked fell on deaf ears.

He said "a quarrel ensued and it resulted in a brawl which made me push her and she hit her head on the wall of my room and slumped.

"When I discovered that she had stopped breathing, I escaped and out of fear, I slept in my friend's place.

"When I came back the next morning, I found out that she was still lifeless. I became confused and decided to dig a shallow grave and bury her and later went back to my friend's house."

Zaccheus in his statement blamed the devil for his action and pleaded for leniency.

Catholic Priest Kidnappers Demand N50m

Kidnappers of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Nwika Gbinu have demanded a N50 million ransom for the man of God to regain his freedom, after spending four days in their den.

Rev. Nwika was reportedly kidnapped at about 2 a.m. on Monday at his residence at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Onne in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Southsouth Nigeria.

The cleric's elder brother, Ledum said the whereabouts of his brother had remained unknown as the kidnappers had not contacted the family.

However, a source claimed the abductors have demanded N50 million ransom from the cleric's church to enable him regain his freedom.

Reacting to the demand for ransom, the Director of Social Communications for the Port Harcourt Diocese of the Catholic Church, Rev. Father Chris Anyanwu said the church was not ready to part with a dime.

The cleric's brother, Ledum appealed to the abductors to release his brother unconditionally, arguing that he is not a politician and his church did not organise any launch or harvest programme where huge amount of money could be raised.

Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Benjamin Ugwuegbulam confirmed the kidnap of the leric.

He added that the matter is being investigated and efforts are ongoing to rescue the catholic priest.

Man Impregnates Father's Wife

Emmanuel Okon Akpan of Okoyong community in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Southsouth Nigeria, shocked residents of the area when he engaged in a faceoff with his father for allegedly snatching the old man’s wife, Agnes Akpan.

The trouble appears to have reached a point of no reconciliation as the young man has also impregnated the woman, claiming he so much loves her.

The man, who is currently in detention at the Federal Housing Police Station, is to explain to the police what relationship he has with his father’s wife that has culminated in pregnancy.

The man was heard at the police station lamenting that his first son Emmanuel “has snatched my wife that I just married not long ago.”

Mr. Akpan said he is a widower who lost his first wife some years ago, and had been single until recently when he decided to marry Agnes in order to have someone to assist him wash his clothes and prepare his meals.

He told the Investigation Police Officers (IPO) at the Federal Housing Police Station that he had not savoured the warmth of his newly married wife up to a year when he suddenly suspected that his son was having affairs with her.

“What culminated in the pregnancy started when the boy started courting my wife with gifts, wears and money, telling her that he was ready to take good care of her and the lady fell for him.”

He said after his son swept the lady’s heart, she started avoiding him.

“She was always in my son’s one room apartment, even at odd times of the night.”

The son, who did not deny having carnal knowledge of his father’s wife, claimed that while his father was in the process of bringing Agnes home, he thought the man was engaging the lady for him.

“Since she is a young lady I thought my father may be unable to satisfy her sexually,” he added.

Agnes and the son were alleged to have started calling Mr. Akpan an old man, claiming the man was disturbing their life. This prompted the man to report to the police.

Sources said the man went berserk recently, after realising that his wife was pregnant for his son; threatening to kill both of them.

Some family members who said they did not want the face-off to result in bloodshed later intervened.

At press time, some of the family members were said to have started visiting the police station, trying to intervene so that the matter will not be charged to court, as they claimed the incident was too embarrassing for the public to know.

Efforts to speak with the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey, did not yield the desired result, as the police image maker said it was not a matter to be discussed on phone. (Metro News)

Billionaire founder of ThisDay newspaper, Nduka Obaigbena has condemned the bombing of the Abuja and Kaduna offices of his company on Thursday, saying he can never be cowed by the dreaded Boko Haram sect members.

The militant sect on Thursday night claimed responsibility for the attack.

Obaigbena, while reacting to the sect members' attack, said he was unmoved by their bombings and threats on his company, declaring that life must go on.

Speaking at the ongoing South-South Economic Summit in Nigeria on Friday, the business mogul told a large audience including governors and security experts that no amount of bombing by any terrorist group can rob him of his social life.

"A member of the audience sent a note to me a while ago, questioning my presence here today because my offices were bombed yesterday (Thursday). But I want to say this minute, that I am not scared of Boko Haram and life must continue. Whether they bombed my office or not, I can never be scared of Boko Haram," he declared, adding that days of the terrorist groups were numbered in Nigeria.

"We shall take care of the injured and make sure that things continue to go on smoothly, but we are not scared of either Boko Haram or their sponsors. We remain unshaken," he stressed, while the audience responded with a resounding applause.

Late Thursday, the management of ThisDay Newspapers had in a statement said the explosion that rocked its Abuja office on Thursday will not deter it from the fundamental principles on which the newspaper was founded.

It added that the newspaper will continue to flourish and remain committed to democracy, free enterprise and social justice in the country.

Politician Sentenced To Death For Collecting Bribe

A Chinese court on Friday sentenced Song Chenguang, former senior political advisor of east China's Jiangxi Province, to death with two years of probation for bribery.

Song, former vice chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was convicted of taking 12.63 million yuan (2 million U.S. dollars) in bribes from 1998 to 2010, according to a statement from the Intermediate People's Court of Tai'an city in east China's Shandong Province.

In exchange, he had offered favors to 18 companies and individuals in contracting projects, gaining sales permission and getting promotions, the statement said.

The crimes were committed while Song was at the positions of deputy head and head of the infrastructure construction department of Jiangxi provincial government, mayor and Party chief of Yichun city, vice chairman of the CPPCC Jiangxi provincial committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Given his behavior in asking for bribes and the amount of money he accepted, Song must receive severe punishment but the two-year probation of the execution has been granted as he confessed to his crimes, the court verdict said.

Song, 60, was expelled from the CPC and removed from office last July.

Female Lawyer Arraigned Over N3.5m Theft

A female legal practitioner, Charity Epiwhere, 42, has again been arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court 5 on a five-count charge of obtaining money under false pretense, making demands by threat, forgery and conversion of money.

Epiwhere was first docked on 13 March, 2012 in charge No. C/10/2-2012 by the police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos State, on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence, forgery and stealing.

The offences are punishable under Sections 312 (1), 285 and 363, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Aigbokhiaebo, admitted her to bail on self recognition.

In the new amended five-count charge, No. C/10A.2012, the police prosecutor S. Molo, told the court that the accused on 14 July 2009 and 23 October, 2011 at Owode Onirin, Lagos, obtained the sum of N3.5 million from the complainant, Alhaji Lateef Sulaimon, to ratify his title to the land transaction between him and Mrs. Abimbola Alaba.

She was alleged to have threatened the life of Sulaimon, threatened to pull down his building, forged a Deed of Assignment in favour of the complainant, forged the signature of Mohammed Majib Olatunji Anthony Elias on a false Deed of Assignment purported to be in favour of the complainant, knowing full well that the signature was forged.

The defendant again pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Aigbokhiaebo, granted her bail on self recognition. She adjourned the matter till 9 May, 2012 for trial.

A suicide bomber forced himself into the premises of ThisDay Newspapers at Jabi in Abuja on Thursday and detonated an explosive, killing himself and two others.

Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, Chairman of the Editorial Board of the newspapers confirmed the death of two employees of the organisation and that of the suicide bomber.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the blast destroyed parts of the building and many cars parked within the premises.

Mr Aderenle Shinaba, Commissioner of Police in the FCT, declined to confirm the number of deaths, saying that ``the primary role of the police and other security agencies now is to rescue victims.’’

He said seven injured persons were immediately taken to hospitals and that one of them had been discharged, adding that the police cordoned off the area to ensure that spectators did not gain access and sustain injuries.

Also speaking, Mr Martin Osuwah, a Deputy Director, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who is in charge of ``Search and Rescue’’ said it was too early to speak on the number of deaths

Fisherman Sets Six Children Ablaze For Disturbing His Sleep

A 40-year-old fisherman, Kobina Amakye, threw an improvised explosive device leading to the death of a 10-year-old boy and inflicting severe injuries on five others for disturbing his siesta.

Amakye, a father of four, was said to have told the police that he was angered by the noise the children were making when he was trying to catch some sleep. According to him, he threw the explosive at them just to scare them away and that he took the action without the intention to cause harm.

He looked indifferent while in cuffs at the police station with blisters on his hand, which he (Amakye) said was the result of the injury he sustained while he was throwing the explosive at the children.

The dresses of the five children caught fire and this attracted the attention of people around who rescued and sent them to hospital.

The Kotokuraba District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Emmanuel Tetteh, told reporters that the police had information that about 2p.m. on Sunday, Amakye was relaxing in his room at Moree while the six children were playing behind the house.

According to Tetteh, Amakye was said to have told the children to leave the place because they were disturbing him, but they stayed on to play.

Amakye then got a rubber container, filled it with premix fuel and tore pieces of cement papers into the fuel and lit it.

He then threw the container into the group of children behind his room. He bolted after the incident. He was however arrested in his hideout behind Cape Coast Castle after the police mounted search for him overnight Mr Tetteh said.

With the exception of one of the children who escaped unhurt, one girl whose condition is said to be critical is on admission at the Moree Health Centre.

The three others have been treated and discharged at the Central Regional Hospital where the body of the 10 year old boy, Master Kweku Mensah has been deposited.

Airport Cleaner Finds, Returns N7 Million

Imagine what this huge amount of money can do in this difficult time - N7.3 million. Omo this is no small cash at all. Just imagine what you can do with it, buy a house, invest in capital market, relocate to abuja, travels oversea, the list is endless.

This is one report that goes a long way to show that there are still huge number of good people in Nigeria.

Salami Ibrahim, a staff of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO), who found and returned a wallet containing foreign currency totalling N7.3 million while cleaning an aeroplane has been rewarded for his honesty.

Ibrahim, a cabin cleaning team leader, found the wallet containing £25,000 and €5,000 inside an aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA) Lagos, during a routine cleaning exercise.

Impressed with his show of honesty, the management of Turkish Airlines has rewarded Ibrahim with an all-expenses paid return trip to Istanbul, Turkey; despite the fact that the plane in question is not one of theirs.

Managing Director of the airline in Nigeria, Ali Bulut, said: “This is an act that should be rewarded and encouraged because it is good for the aviation industry in Nigeria. Even though the incident did not take place on Turkish Airlines’ aircraft, we are happy that it happened at least in the industry.

Where I come from, good behaviour is rewarded even if it is not directly to you. We appreciate Ibrahim so much, and this is worthy of emulation for other aviation personnel that they must be trusted at all times and that good gesture such as this will surely be rewarded.”

This is the second time that Ibrahim is returning money found while cleaning aircrafts. On September 11, 2009, he found another wallet in an aircraft containing cash and returned it to the owner. A letter of commendation was given to him by NAHCO then.

He expressed gratitude to Turkish Airlines for giving him the chance for the vacation. “When I found the wallet inside the aircraft while cleaning it, I submitted it to security and airline personnel; and the passenger came to collect the wallet in my presence. I want to thank Turkish Airlines for rewarding me on this,” he said.

He was rewarded with an all-expenses paid return trip to Istanbul, Turkey by the management of Turkish Airlines. Do you think this reward was good enough? What about the owner of the money? The news report did not say anything about the owner giving him some reward too.

45 yr Malam Rapes 3 Kids, Lures Them With Biscuits

Mr Abubakar Suleiman a 45-year old Hausa petty trader,  has been sent to Kirikiri Prison for allegedly having carnal knowledge of three minors inside his shop at Shasha area of Lagos State, Nigeria's commercial hub.

Two of the children aged 7 and 5 are from the same parents, while the last one is three years old.

It was gathered that Suleiman allegedly enticed the kids into a kiosk with biscuits and sweets and then defiled them.

Suleiman’s act was exposed when curious neighbours suspected there was strange movement of kids inside his kiosk. They moved in and discovered he was defiling the children.

He was arrested when the children confessed that he defiled them to the neighbors who raised the alarm.

The suspect was arrested by the police but was later released as the culprit was said to be close to some powerful Hausa Serikis in the area.

It was after a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Africa for Human Rights, AFRIRIGHTS, led by Comrade Afolabi Gbajumo intervened in the matter that the Area Commander ordered the re-arrest of Suleiman last Friday.

The NGO stormed the Area ‘M’ Police Division on Monday to spur the police to arraign the culprit in court.

Suleiman was taken to Ejigbo magistrate’s court for prosecution.

Suleiman was slammed with a two-count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of two children, aged 5 and 7 at the Family Court, Ikejam as the matter was classified as defilement and could not be entertained at the magistrate’s court.

Having pleaded not guilty, the presiding judge ordered that the accused be remanded at the Kirikiri Prison and brought to court on 18 June, 2012.

However, the case of the third child aged three, allegedly defiled by Suleiman, was not brought to court yesterday.

According to Gbajumo, her case would be filed today as the test conducted on her had just been released.

Meanwhile, the test conducted on the other two victims by the Orile-Agege General Hospital showed that the hymen of the victims had been broken, showing that they were actually defiled.

Actor Hangs Himself Accidentally While Playing Judas In Passion Of Christ

A Brazilian actor has died after accidentally hanging himself while re-enacting the death of Judas Iscariot in an Easter play, it was reported today.

Tiago Klimeck, 27, was enacting the suicide of Judas during the performance on Good Friday in the city of Itarare.

While acting the scene in which Judas commits suicide after betraying Jesus, he was supposed to ‘hang himself’ from a rope then pretend to be dead.

But the safety vest the actor was using under is robe is believed to have risen up around his neck, strangling him.

The actor was hanging for four minutes before fellow performers realised something was wrong.

Klimeck was taken to hospital suffering from cerebral hypoxia but died on Sunday.

The Passion play was being performed in Itarare, 345km (214 miles) west of Sao Paulo.

Police are investigating the apparatus that was meant to support Klimeck. It appears the knot may have been erroneously tied.

When the actors realised something was wrong, Klimeck was taken down and found to be unconscious.

The Santa Casa de Itapeva hospital has confirmed the death and an autopsy will take place on Monday.

Man Beheads Lover After Sex

The Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele in Ibadan have paraded two suspects who allegedly killed a 42-year old woman, Mrs. Sekinat Emiola.

One of the suspects, Asimiyu Ayantayo the lover of the deceased allegedly beheaded her and cut off her two hands after making love with her.

But the suspect claimed that the deceased died as a result of the killer charm(magun)that was placed on her by another man.

According to him, after love-making with the deceased, she, possibly, under the spell of magun, somersaulted and died.

But, when asked why he beheaded her after killing her, he said he never wanted to use her for rituals but to make it impossible for residents in the area to identify her.

He said: “She was my mistress. I contacted magun on her during love-making. She wanted to summersault but I helped her. Then she started vomiting after the act and she fell down from the chair and died. It was then I beheaded her and cut off her two hands. I don’t need the body parts for anything and I did nothing with it.”

His accomplice, Mr. Isiaka Akanbi, also denied involvement in the act, saying his friend only sent him to buy a sack for him but did not know the purpose for which he needed it.

The parade of the suspects attracted many sympathisers at Eleyele area who thronged the State Police headquarters to catch the glimpse of the suspect and the gory picture of head and the hands that were severed by the suspects.

Speaking with newsmen on the incident, the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Tambari Mohammed the neighbor of the deceased alerted the police about a headless body dumped in the area. - Vanguard

Six Human Traffickers Arrested In Nigeria-Algeria Border

Six suspected human traffickers have been arrested in northwest Nigeria's Katsina State, according to the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Umar Bulama.

Bulama told reporters on Monday that the suspects were arrested last weekend at the Kwangwalan border in Mai'adua local government area of the state as they attempted to cross the border on their way to Algeria.

He said they include two male and four female suspects, adding that they would be handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), for further action - Xinhua

Tinotenda Mbedzi from Bulawayo High Density suburb of Tshabalala will think twice before cheating again after his embittered wife took revenge on him on Monday by feeding him beef stew mixed with chunks of meat from a dead cat that had been hit by a car and dog excrement.

Mrs Rashita Mbedzi lost her bearings to the extent of contemplating suicide when she stumbled on allegations that her husband, Mr Tinotenda Mbedzi had a five-month-old baby with another woman.

Help came her way from support and comfort of relatives and friends, with that she overcame the feeling of hopelessness and unworthiness and decided to get even with her bed-hopping husband.

But Mrs Mbedzi pretended that everything was now normal and her unsuspecting husband took that hook, line and sinker, as he believed that he had hoodwinked his wife into forgiving him.

Unbeknown to Mr Mbedzi was that his wife was bidding her time and hatch a plan to serve him a meal with a difference. Mixing the cat meat and dog poop with beef and vegetable stew, Mrs Mbedzi cooked the ultimate retribution that no woman has ever contemplated.

“I realised that I could not fight him because he is stronger nor could I exchange words with him because he is more of a talker than me, so i used his weakness for meat to teach him a good sized lesson,” said Mrs Mbedzi.

Nollywood Actor, Jim Iyke Loses Bid To Stop N15m Share Scam Trial

Nollywood is at it again.

An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court has okayed ace Nollywood actor, James Ikechukwu Esomugha, a.k.a Jim Iyke, for prosecution over his alleged complicity in a N15 million share scam.

Magistrate Azubike Okeagu in a ruling he delivered on Tuesday, said he was satisfied that the Nigerian Police Force has successfully established a prima-facie criminal case against Jim Iyke.

Consequently, the court fixed May 23 for police lawyer, Inspector Danjuma Ebune, to call witnesses to testify against the controversial actor who often plays bad boy role in movies.

Police had on November 11, 2011, docked Jim Iyke on a one count charge bothering on criminal breach of trust, criminal force, assault, cheating and criminal misappropriation contrary to sections 312, 265, 322, 397 and 309 of the Penal Code.

He was accused of defrauding a music recording company, Untamed Records Ltd, by surreptitiously transferring 15 per cent of its equity shares to his personal account.

The police maintained that its investigations revealed that the transferred shares were worth N15million in monetary value.

One of the prosecuting counsels, Mr Chijoke Okezie, had told the court that the accused person who he said was a resident of Sunnyville Estate, Abuja, hoodwinked one Habiba Abubakar into granting him access to share documents of the recording company.

He said police was invited into the case after Abubakar who is the manager of the company, discovered that 15 per cent of its equity shares were illegally transferred to Jim Iyke.

Following his plea on not guilty, the presiding Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000, even as he was ordered to produce two persons to stand as his sureties.

Meanwhile, owing to his absence in court for trial on two successive dates, Police applied for a bench warrant to be issued for his immediate arrest, a prayer the trial Magistrate vowed to grant should the accused fail to appear in court on the last adjourned date.

His lawyer, Mrs Esther Uzoma, had pleaded the court to temper justice with mercy, blaming the absence of her client for trial on the fact that he was mobbed when he went for a video shoot in Cameroun.

Informing the court that Jim Iyke was hospitalized, Uzoma, pleaded Police to allow the matter to be settled out of court.

At the resumed sitting on the matter on Tuesday, the defence lawyer applied that the case be struck out for want of diligent prosecution, a request that was immediately refused by Magistrate Okeagu.

Jim Iyke sought the dismissal of the case after Police notified the court that the manager of the defrauded music company, Mrs Abubakar, who was billed to testify at the first prosecution witness in the matter, had family issues that kept her away from the court on that day.

Responding to Jim Iyke’s application for quash, the Magistrate held: “it is the humble view of this court that the prosecution has always been in court since the inception of this case.

On the last adjourned date, prosecution was in court with his witnesses and was ready to proceed if not for the absence of the accused person.

“I hold that the prosecution has not shown any sign of lack of diligence, therefore, this case is hereby adjourned till May 23 for Police to open its case against the accused person.”

Meantime, a mild drama played out shortly after the case was adjourned, as the actor who wore black shirt on black jean, and kept punching his Black Berry phone throughout the duration of the court proceeding, clashed with his  some of his fans who attempted to snap him with their mobile phones.

On his order, his aide seized the handset of one of the fans, and allegedly wiped the contents of his memory card in a bid to forestall the publication of his pictures within the vicinity of the court.

Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned till May 23.

Experts: Women With Heart Disease More Likely To Have Female Babies

This is one report I find very difficult to believe. But not in the face of facts and proofs. So, I've decided to tender it to judiciary.

Abi should our Naija ladies now start to pray for heart disease so as to get a female child???  Hmmm...this one pass me small o.

A new study presented yesterday at the 2012 World Congress of Cardiology in Dubai organized by the World Heart Federation has shown that women with heart disease are more likely to give birth to female rather than male babies.

It could be recalled that cardiovascular disease, CVD, which includes heart disease and stroke is the biggest killer of women globally causing 8.6 million deaths annually.

Unfortunately, women in low and middle income countries like Nigeria who develop CVD are more likely to die from it than women in industrialized nations.

The study further found that three quarters of the 216 children born to 200 pregnant women with diagnosed heart disease were female.The report which also reviewed the sex of the children showed that 64 per cent of the women had diagnosed valvular disease.

Commenting  on the study, Dr.  A. Alizadehasi of Tabriz, Iran said: “We believe that this is the first study looking at the relationship between gender and the mother’s cardiac disease.  We hope that this will lead to further investigation into this area”.

Chief Science Officer, World Heart Federation, Dr Kathryn Taubert who described the study as interesting observation said: “The chromosomes in a man’s sperm are responsible for the sex of a baby but this study does suggest that there may be a relationship between the health status of the mother and the sex of the babies that she is able to a carry to full – term.  As the number of women with heart disease is increasing around the world, this could prove to be a very interesting area for further research.”

After reading this, I just dey envisage a scenario where men will be taking their fiance or girlfriend for heart test to confirm their eligibility for male children.

Archbishop Arraigned For Stealing Church Funds

Perhaps our generation needs a long time out for congregations to start preaching to our Men of Gods.

Hearing in bail application by ``Archbishop’’ who allegedly stole from church members fixed for April 27
An Ikeja High Court, Lagos, has fixed April 27 for hearing of a bail application by a self-acclaimed Archbishop John Okeke, who allegedly stole from his church members.

The ``Archbishop’’ was alleged to have stolen money and landed property worth N7 million from his church members.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Aishat Opesanwo on Friday fixed the date after granting Okeke's request for a change of legal representation.

She ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Okeke's new counsel, Mr Chinedu Ikegbule, to forward all pending applications to her, at least 48 hours before the next adjourned date.

Okeke, founder of God's Pentecostal Ministry Worldwide, Iba, Lagos, is facing a nine-count charge of stealing, forgery, uttering and impersonation.

The 58-year-old accused pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody.

EFCC prosecutor Ben Ubi alleged that Okeke on Sept. 13, 2005 forged the documents of a parcel of land known as ``Plot H1", located at 2nd Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.

Ubi said the ``Archbishop’’ did it without the knowledge and consent of the original owners,Messrs Ignatius Ozurumba and Augustine Agumadu.

He said the complainants, who are both Directors of Immortal Impex Ltd., were members of Okeke's church when the act was allegedly carried out.

According to him, Okeke sold the said land to the trustees of Mainland Motorcycle and Spare Parts Dealers Association for the sum of N7 million.

Ubi said the accused had forged a change of ownership document purportedly issued by the Federal Housing Authority, Garki, Abuja.

He was also alleged to have forged a deed of assignment concerning the said property and had impersonated the original owners.

The prosecutor claimed that Okeke fraudulently deposed to an affidavit of loss of original allocation papers before an Apapa Magistrates' Court on June 29, 2004.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 192, 390(8) (b) 467 (2), 468 and 484 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State 2003.

It also contravened Section 2(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act of 2006.

If Found Guilty: Popular Nigerian Pastor To Pay N2b For Slapping A Lady

Popular pastor and founder of the Living Faith Christian Church International, David Oyedepo, will face a legal action for slapping a young lady during church service, last year.


Robert Igbinedion, a Lagos based lawyer, confirmed to Premium Times Friday that he had filed a suit, on behalf of the young lady, at the Ogun State High Court for the enforcement of the lady's fundamental rights to freedom from inhuman and degrading treatment, human dignity, fair hearing, and freedom from discrimination.

Mr. Igbinedion is seeking an award of N2bn as 'general and exemplary damages' against Mr. Oyedepo.

"If a wrong is done to the young lady, she is bound to receive justice for that wrong," said Mr. Igbinedion, a Solicitor at Salus Populi Chambers.

In the suit, Mr. Igbinedion said that the young lady, while answering an "illegal" alter call, was trying to explain herself when the pastor gave her "a dirty and thunderous slap."

"The respondent (Mr. Oyedepo) made the alter call for witches to come out, he did not make a similar call for other categories of sinners like illicit drug dealers, contract inflators, fraudsters, adulterers, and fornicators in the church," read the suit.

Mr. Igbinedion, who represented the victims of the celebrated Pastor Emeka Ezeugo (popularly known as Reverend King) at the Magistrate court, in 2006; stated that cases of violence in the place of worship if not nipped in the bud could escalate into 'uncountable' dimensions.
Furthermore, he said the calling out of the young lady (and others) as witches are illegal, unconstitutional, and a breach of Section 34 of the Constitution of Nigeria, African Charter on Human and People's Right, and United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Right.

The suit asked the court to compel Mr. Oyedepo to issue a self-signed public apology to be published in two national dailies and one international satellite television station.

It also wants the respondent to issue a similar alter call for drug dealers, corrupt government officials, bribe-giving contractors, and other category of sinners who are members of the church.

In December last year, a video of Mr. Oyedepo viciously slapping a teenage girl during church service for saying she is "a witch for Jesus" appeared on popular site You Tube.

Though later removed, the video went viral within days with the pastor, fondly called Papa, receiving a lot of stick from outraged viewers and members of the public.

One viewer described the act as "unbiblical, barbaric, and a disgrace."

Days later, another video surfaced in which Mr. Oyedepo tried to justify his action saying "it is my ministry to slap" and that the fact that the witch, rather than going to court, apologized showed his superiority.

"People now complain on the Internet that I slapped a witch. If I see another one, I'll slap," he said in the video.

Nigerian Pastor Sent To Prison For Preaching To Traditional Ruler

A Lagos-based clergy, Pastor Aba Peter, who allegedly went to a palace and attempted to preach and pray to a monarch in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, has ended up in prison custody.

The 42-year old pastor was held by the monarch’s aides and handed over to the police where he was charged to Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court with attempt to steal and loitering.

The incident happened at Ifoshi Road in the palace of Oojon of Ejigbo, Oba Moruf Ojoola.

Pastor Peter was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos after he was granted bail and he failed to meet the conditions.

The pastor claimed that contrary to what the police at Ejigbo station charged him with he wanted to enter the palace to preach and pray.

He explained that he had not even entered the palace before the Oba’s aides held and accused him of loitering and attempting to steal in the palace.

He was handed over to the police who subsequently charged him to court.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. B. Folami, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned, while he was remanded in custody.

Bollywood Actress ‘Beheaded By Jealous Rivals’

A young Bollywood star, Meenakshi Thapar, has allegedly been kidnapped and beheaded by two fellow actors.

The 26-year-old actress met Amit Jaiswal and his lover Preeti Surin on the set of her latest film, ‘Heroine’, The Daily Telegraph reports.

It was there that Jaiswal and Surin heard of her family’s wealth, and allegedly hatched a plot to kidnap her.

The duo are said to have invited Thapar to a small town on the Nepalese border, where they took her hostage and demanded 1.5 million Rupees (£18,000) from her parents, and threatened to force her into pornography if they were not paid.

Although Thapar’s parents are thought to have transferred some money to their daughter’s captors, the young star was killed soon after. A detective working on the case told The Telegraph some of the harrowing details:

“She was strangulated in a hotel and her body was hacked into pieces and thrown in a water tank. They threw her head from a moving bus while travelling back to Mumbai.” The case is ongoing.

Folashade Adeshina, fiancée of the late Super Eagles defender, Olubayo Adefemi, has passed through turbulent times one year after she lost Adefemi just before their marriage

It was exactly one year (on Wednesday) since Olubayo Adefemi, a former Super Eagles defender, died in Greece in an auto crash while on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Nigeria to finalise details of his wedding to beautiful model, Shade Adeshina. The wedding had been scheduled for May 26, 2011.

But then she got the bad news through a telephone call from her pastor, Ola Akintomide, while in the kitchen cooking; alas it was one call which would eventually change her life. Adefemi was dead.

Folashade says she still communicates with the late footballer in her dreams. It’s weird but she insists it’s true.

She said, “I want people to know that the dead can get in touch with the living. Before you can achieve that, you have to open your heart and beg God to give you the chance. I did it and it worked for me.

“I see Bayo in my dreams and he gives me directions. He even showed me the beautiful and quiet place he is. It is a beautiful garden, just like the description of the Garden of Eden in the Bible.

“It might sound weird to people, but what am saying is true. Seeing him doesn’t mean death is knocking on my door as superstitious people are want to believe. I will not die but live to declare the glory of the Lord to the shame of the devil. I only asked God to give me the privilege to see him in my dreams, and He granted me my request.”

She admits that it would be difficult loving again but she says Olubayo has helped in reshaping her life even in death.

“Before I doubted if I could (love again) too but Bayo appeared to me in a dream and told me to move on with my life,” she said.

But will she ever meet a man as nice and caring as Olubayo? Your guess is as good as mine.

“Well, let’s wait until then,” she summed up.

Nurse Shoots Mother, Kidnaps Newborn

A Texas nurse has been charged with murder for shooting a young mother and kidnapping her three-day-old baby outside a pediatrician’s office, officials said Wednesday.

Verna McClain, 30, had recently suffered a miscarriage but did not tell her fiance about it, local media reported. She allegedly kidnapped the baby in hopes of passing him off as her own.

Police managed to find the unharmed baby after several desperate hours of searching by tracing the suspect’s Lexus to a nearby apartment complex.

McClain didn’t have the baby when she returned home, but told police little Keegan Schuchardt could be found at her sister’s house.

“To recover a child who was kidnapped and a mother killed by a stranger within no connection within five or six hours is as good of police work as you can do,” Lieutenant Dan Norris of the Montgomery County sheriff department told reporters.

McClain was parked in front of a pediatrician’s office in Spring, Texas, when Kala Golden, 28, emerged with her son after a checkup on Tuesday afternoon.

She allegedly shot Golden and grabbed the baby, but Golden kept fighting even as blood was pouring out of her wounds.

Golden tried to grab her son out the car and was knocked to the ground as it sped away.

Witnesses said she was screaming “my baby” as she struggled to get Keegan back. Witnesses used Golden’s cell phone to contact her husband and mother. She died in hospital before her husband could get there.

Keith Schuchardt said that while he couldn’t understand why anyone would want to harm his wife he was relieved to have his son back safe in his arms. “It was nice to know he’s still alive,” the distraught father told reporters outside his home.

The shooting sent shockwaves through the community. “I feel so, so, so terrible for the family and the baby that will never get to know his mother,” neighbor Amanda Johnson told KHOU news.

A 14 yr Boy Rapes 17 yr Girl In South Africa

A 14-year-old boy, will appear in a South African court on Thursday for the rape of a 17-year-old girl whose attack was filmed and has gone viral.

“The arrests emanated from the circulation of the video by the suspects – that’s how the police picked it up,” Ndou told AFP.

Seven other suspects were also seen in the video and will be appearing at the Roodepoort magistrate’s court today.

The eighth suspect, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on Wednesday after the victim, whom local media reported has the mental capacity of a four-year-old, was found in his house.

She had gone missing on March 21 but her disappearance was not reported by her mother, said Ndou.

“We found him with the girl in his house and he was charged for abduction and rape.” Watching the video is a crime under South Africa’s child pornography law.

The Cape Times on Thursday said the low-quality cellphone video showed the girl screaming and begging for her attackers to stop as they took turns to rape her.

It ends with one offering her two rands (26 US cents) for her silence and she is heard crying, the newspaper said.

The video’s spread has forced South Africa to confront its staggering incidence of rape.

More than 56,000 cases were reported to police last year. But the crime is often under-reported, like the case of the 17-year-old.

A 2009 study by the government’s Medical Research Council revealed that only one in 25 rapes were reported to the police. The same survey found more than one quarter of South African men admitted to raping a woman or girl. - AFP

Grandpa Remanded For Fingering 3-Year-Old Girl

A 56-year-old grandpa is currently being remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Prison for allegedly fingering a three-year-old girl. The suspect, who resides at Block 1, Masha, Surulere, Lagos, claimed to be a staff of Mushin Local Government.

P.M.News investigation revealed that the suspect and the parents of the girl reside in the same building.

According to the mother of girl(name withheld), “it’s the usual character of the old papa, and he is not willing to turn a new leaf.

“On the fateful day, which was the 41st day after my husband’s death, I was looking for my daughter when one of my neighbour’s daughters told me that she was inside “fingering” daddy’s room but her mother instructed her to keep quiet. I stood at the man’s door, calling my daughter. Suddenly, he opened the door and pushed her out with her pant half-way down. She was crying and calling: ‘My bum-bum, my bum bum.”

The matter was immediately reported at the Bode Thomas Division, Surelere, where policemen were sent to arrest the suspect. The little girl was taken to hospital for examination and the reports confirmed she was sexually molested.

The man was charged to Magistrate Court 3, Surulere where he pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge. He was ordered remanded in prison custody while the case was adjourned till 3 July, 2012.
