A 45-year-old woman, who runs a private maternity home in Abia
State, has been arrested along with three other women over their alleged
involvement in the stealing of an eight-month-old baby boy from his
parents at Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.
Muka told reporters, while parading the suspects (names withheld) at the state police
headquarters, Asaba, that the eight-
month-old baby, named Destiny Umeh, “son of one Innocent Umegboro of Ogwashi-Uku, was stolen
from the father’s house when the mother left him in the care of an
older son while she went to the market to make purchases.
“However, on May 6, 2012, Ogwashi-Uku Division received reliable
information and trailed the suspects to Osisioma Aba, in Abia State and
arrested two women (names withheld) both of Ogwashi-Uku.”
According to him, following investigation, the female nurse and one of her
staff were trailed to Abia State, were they were also arrested.
“The third suspect, a nurse and her worker had conspired with them to
dispose off the children before nemesis caught up with them. The
suspects had confessed to the crime and are helping the police to
unearth the cases of child stealing in Ogwashi-Uku and environs in the
past months,” he said.
